MAC + Proenza Schouler collection

Are you a fan of Proenza Schouler?  If not, a little explanation…  they're fashion designers.  See if you want to check out their designs.  This spring they've also worked with MAC to design some cosmetics and beautiful packaging for them.
In addition to the cool packaging, there's the equally cool looking ombre blushes.  One is pink-themed (Sunset Beach) - it starts out as pale pink and morphs into a hot pink.  The other is coral-themed (Ocean City) - it goes from a peachy nude to a coral.  They're a little more expensive than a regular MAC blush (30.00), but the way I figured it (or rationalized it), I got 3 different colors in one blush package.
There is also lipstick, lip pencils, eye pencils, and nail polish.  The lipsticks come in nude (Woodrose),  pink (Pink Fringe), a bright orange-red (Mangrove) or a dark but sheer purple (Primrose).  They also are more expensive than a regular MAC bullet (22.00), but you're paying for the packaging.  You've probably heard people say that about the more expensive cosmetics and skin care, and it's absolutely true.  It costs more to manufacture fancy looking packages for cosmetics.  And every once in awhile I'm willing to pay that extra cost for something that I really like.
I'll post some pictures of the blushes once I get a full face of make up on and take pictures of it.  I played with them briefly and I really like the texture of them AND the look.  Subtle if that's what you want or a little more bold, but not clown-like.
The collection comes to Nordstrom, Macy's and MAC free-standing stores today (Thursday), so check it out!

**Dupe alert!  If you bought the Sweet Succulence lipstick from MAC's Indulge collection last August, pass on Primrose, unless you want the packaging.  Sweet Succulence and Primrose look exactly the same.  Primrose does seem slightly smoother when being applied, but otherwise they seem the same.

MAC Playland. Have fun with your beauty

MAC's new Playland collection hits stores today, and it is loads of fun for those of us who need a little bright color in their life.  I'm no stranger to bright colored lipstick, so I had thought about passing on this collection.  But at the last minute I decided to order online, and I'm so glad that I did!  So far, my favorite is Red Balloon.  The name is a bit misleading, as it isn't red, it's a "hot fuchsia", a sort of red-pink-littlebitorange.  (If by any chance you missed it and can't get it, Full Fuschia is the closest dupe I could find, and it's also the Amplified formula.  After that, Girl About Town is close, albeit slightly darker.)  I've seen Red Balloon on various skin tones and hair colors, and it looks good on everyone. Although I have similar colors, I'm still glad that I hot it. Here's how it looks on me:

Here's a close up of it and swatches of it and Happy Go Lucky, a bright mid-tone pink:

Another very popular color, especially amongst those who like coral and orange lip color, is Toying Around.  This one is selling out quickly, so if you want it get to the store fast (all three that I've mentioned thus far are sold out online).  On me it's a pretty bright orange, although not quite as bright as some others that I own.

The last one that I have photos of so far is the lip gloss Pure Silliness.  The description of it online was a milky lilac, but it's not, its pretty much bright pink.  I don't have any gloss in this color, though, so I'm very happy with it.  This pic is gloss only - no lipstick or pencil under it.  The color is very opaque.

Other items in the collection are the title lipstick Playland, a yellow-gold that's more yellow than gold, a light bright pink named Sweet Experience, and a red frost named Head in the Clouds.  (All of the other lipsticks are MAC's Amplified formula, a nice creamy, opaque texture.)  The other lip glasses are Lots of Laughs, the peach that I mentioned, Brightside, a yellow to match Playland, Carousel, a bright pink, and Live it Up, a bright orange.  There are also Orange, Yellow, Green and Blue loose pigments, Blue, Pink and Orange eye pencils, and three Casual Colors, which are multi-purpose creams for lips and cheeks.  These come in bright coral, bright pink, and bright pastel pink.  The casual colors are limited edition items that aren't normally available from MAC.
So far everything in the collection has gotten very good reviews, especially the lip colors.  For me, they're a welcome change from the gloomy winter weather that we've had for far too long.  Spring is trying to come here in Southwest Pennsylvania, but winter isn't ready to leave yet.  It actually snowed again this week!
If you want some bright color in your make up wardrobe, get thee to a MAC store, Nordstrom's or Macy's.  Then play!

MAC Patentpolish lip pencils

Love lip crayons but hate having to sharpen them? There's a new alternative - a twist up crayon/pencil with a rounded tip like lip balm.  They feel a bit like lip balm, but they're glossier and the rounded end gives you more precision when applying. They have nice, semi-opaque color, and feel nice and moist on the lips.  There is a little tackiness to the texture, but that doesn't bother me, as it's a thick tackiness.  It means it will stay on longer than a gloss.
And if you have problems with lipsticks sinking into lines on your lips, you will probably like these.  Except for PinkPatent.  That one did sink into my lip lines, so I'll be wearing a primer under it.  I've bought 5 of these and I like them enough that I would get more, finances permitting.
Pleasant up close
They are limited edition, though, so pick one up while they're still stocked.  They're available at MAC stores, Nordstrom counters, most Macy's counters, and at

Pleasant is a beautiful pink-red

The pencil doesn't need sharpening, and it has a nice rounded tip that makes it like lip balm when applying

Patentpink, Kittenish and Spontaneous swatches

Hopelessly Devoted is my very favorite - gorgeous color
PatentPink is a nice lilac pink, bold enough to wear with minimal make up

Spontaneous is a nice mauve color that works well for me
Comparing MAC Hopelessly Devoted (top lip) to NARS Yu (bottom)
I have a lot of the NARs crayons so I compared the bright pinks from MAC and NARs.   The NARs is a Satin texture, while the MAC ones are all glossy textures. The MAC one, therefore, was a little glossier and tackier. NARs seemed to sink into my lip lines more, where the MAC ones mostly seem to float on top of them.  I think they both would feather, given enough time, but I haven't done an hours long experiment yet.

Try them out and decide for yourself.

MAC By Request, 90's edition

Do you ever wish that you could go back to the 90's?  You can, in a way.  For one thing, nineties' fashions are back - floral dresses and combat boots, at least.  And if you hurry, you can get a MAC lipstick shade from that era.  It's online only, and it's recently been re-stocked, so check it out.  Number one as voted by MAC Facebook fans is Pink Poodle, a gorgeous fuchsia, then Hoop, a pretty rosy-pink, and Glam, a gorgeous pink-red. I bought all 3 and LOVE them.  I also got the Pink Poodle lip gloss and Hoop lip gloss, both of them are gorgeous.
There are also 3 eyeshadows that were voted to bring back.  (I didn't get any of those.)  There is Butterscotch, a nice yellowish beige, Diesel, a gray, and Fiction, a dark olive green.

These are limited-time only items, so get them while you can!  Then you can shop for those floral print dresses.

Get your spring beauty tools now!

The spring collections from MAC have begun rolling out.  The first one I bought was the Mineralize collection. These are permanent items consisting of lipsticks, lip glasses and eye shadows.  I got some of the lipsticks and glosses, and they are FANTASTIC, especially if you're an older woman.  Moisturizing yet still full of color.  They make my lips look smoother and plumper.  Look at me with the beautiful color Bold Springs on:

I'll share some swatches of the other ones that I have soon.  Also available now are some old 90's MAC classics, brought back by popular vote for MAC by Request.  There are 3 lipsticks:  Hoop, Glam, and Pink Poodle, and matching glosses (available online only).  And today they'll add the 3 eye shadows that were voted back.  I should be getting my lipsticks Friday so I'll do a post with swatches then.  This is a one-time thing, so once they sell out, that's it.

Also in stores today are MAC's Patentpolish pencils.  They're similar to NARS, Urban Decay, and Clinique's chubby pencils/crayons.  The one difference, which is great, is that you don't have to sharpen the MAC ones.  They come in a twist-up applicator.  Instead of coming to a point like a crayon, though, they are rounded.  For me this worked pretty well.  They're very glossy, so I roll them on like a lip balm (like Maybelline's Baby Lips).  If you absolutely must have a sharp line, you can apply it with a lip brush.  These are a limited edition item so try them while they last!  I bought 4, and will do a more detailed review as soon as I can get the rest of the photos to upload (I've been having internet problems lately).

Also coming soon is MAC's Playland collection.  Lots of bright colors in the Amplified finish, which is nice and creamy.  It's one of my favorites.  This collection is bright fun colors, mostly for lips, but there are blue and yellow pigments, too. I believe it will be in stores the 14th of this month.

And then there's the collab with Proenza Schouler.  Lots of ombre in this one.  It was supposed to come out today (April 3rd), but then I heard that the release had been pushed back to the 24th.  Tonight I read that some MAC stores/counters are saying part of it WILL be released today, and other sources say no, it won't be available until the 24th.  So it's a wait and see on that one.

And in May the big summer collection comes, and it's GORGEOUS. The packaging looks like water to match the name, Alluring Aquatic.  The packaging is to die for, the colors of the products are mostly neutral, however.  I'm okay with that, as I have lots of brights. I'll try to gather some photos and do a post on that one.
