MAC's collab with Rihanna, and bad UPS days

So, did you order anything from the RiRi loves MAC collection?  If you did, you know about the astronomical Time it took to get an order placed.  The first item from the collection was a red lipstick named RiRi Woo.  I wasn't paying attention then, but I read that it sold out in stores in under 3 hours.  They announced that it would be released again with some other products in June. I saw a preview of it and wanted the lipsticks, since they were shades of violet and were matte, two of my favorite things.

Last Monday I checked their site and saw that it was going to be released Tuesday at noon. That was a small problem for me because I sleep during the day (long story). But I set my alarm for 10 to 12, figuring I could order them, and go back to sleep.  Little did I know it would take hours to order them.  Honestly, it took me 2 hours and 40 minutes.  It seemed that they had some major computer/network problems.  I've worked in tech for a long time, so I sympathized with that.

They shipped my order out pretty quickly, and it was due to arrive on Friday (last week).  As I mentioned, I sleep during the day, so I normally don't see the UPS guy.  He leaves my packages in the same place every time, on the back steps or the back porch, in the shade.  But not this time. For some odd reason he left it on our front deck, baking in the sun.  And MAC's boxes are black.  So by the time I found the box, the lipsticks had started to melt.  What are the odds??  I took them inside, into the A/C, and flipped the boxes to the opposite sides, hoping that as they cooled they would tilt back to the center of the tube.  That didn't happen, but they didn't melt too badly, anyhow.  The one that I wanted the most is of course the one that melted the most.  I ordered another one before they sold out, and plan to file a claim with UPS.

But here is what they look like (I only bought RiRi Boy and Heaux).

More of MAC's summery bright lipsticks and glosses

Are you trying out any of the new bright lip colors this spring?  If you've read any of my previous posts, you know that I love bright lip color, and I've been indulging my love this year.  I've been buying some NARS and Urban Decay lip pencils, but I haven't given up my MAC by any means.  They have so many variations of each shade that there's always another lipstick to tempt me/you.

If you're into bright pink, there are a lot of options.  One of the brightest is Candy Yum Yum, a bright matte pink (see photos below). There's also Girl About Town, Full Fuschia, Fusion Pink, and the stunning color Show Orchid. All of these are opaque and very creamy in texture. And if you want red and/or berry colors and you like something a little different, check out MAC's collaboration with Rihanna, which comes out next week. Among other things, it includes a berry, a lighter purple, and a red all in matte formula for that vintage look. It will probably sell out quickly though, as the last Rihanna/MAC product, RiRi Woo lipstick (the same red that will come out again next week), sold out in stores in less than 3 hours.

If you'd like to try bright pinks but are hesitant, try a bright color with a sheer finish/texture, like MAC's Sheen Supreme or Lustre formulas.  They're very creamy, but the texture is sheer so you can wear 1 coat and have sheer color, or build it to whatever brightness you like.  I haven't tried them yet, but Revlon, Maybelline, and L'Oreal all came out with some sheer but brightly colored lip products this year.

If you're into oranges or corals, check out my other post about MAC's Into Orange collection.

If you're into the lighter, pastel shades for spring and summer, there are plenty of those, too.  Pretty pale pinks, golden bronzes, and various nude shades all look great in the summer, especially with a faux tan. I'll have a post on those colors coming up soon.

A few of my favorite things

I've come across some great clothes lately, as well as shoes.  I thought I'd share a few with you (with more to come).  First are some great leggings for summer from Hue.  I found them on Nordstrom's web site during their Half Yearly Sale.  They're bright versions of pastel colors, they're capri length, and they're made out of cotton and spandex.  They have real pockets in back and fake ones in front to resemble Chino's.  They're super comfortable and look great.  Here's what the ones I bought look like:

Another thing that I'm loving is the wedge sneakers.  This trend started last spring, but it's become mainstream now and I'm seeing them everywhere.  For awhile I told myself that it wasn't for me, because I thought the wedge heel would hurt my back, which I have a lot of problems with anyhow.  But I just kept looking at them longingly whenever I saw them.  Finally I decided to browse on Zappos, my very favorite shoe shopping site.  (If you haven't tried Zappos yet you really should. Their site is easy to navigate, they have a great selection, and their customer service is stellar. They make shoe shopping extra fun.)  Anyhow, I found a pair of wedge sneakers that are so me.  I'm all about bling, so I've been thrilled about the studded shoe trend AND the metallic trend.  I found a pair of wedge sneakers that are metallic gold with studs.  Beyond cool!

The inside of the shoe doesn't have studs, so I won't cut myself

Alas, if metallic and studs aren't your thing, there are plenty of wedge sneakers that are much more plain.  Have you tried the wedge sneakers yet?  If not, are you going to?  What fashion trends are you into this summer?

Did you miss MAC's All About Orange collection?

MAC's new collections have a tendency to sell out in under 12 hours.  They go on sale in the morning, so if you can't shop during the day, by evening they're often gone.  So what can you do if you really wanted one of those orange shades?   Be creative.  Those aren't the only oranges MAC carries.  I was fortunate that I wanted orange WAY before it was popular.  I bought my first orange from Make Up For Ever in 2007 or 2008.  At that time MAC didn't even sell a bright orange.  (I lived by a MAC Pro store then, so I got the best selection, too.)  The point is, if you want an orange lipstick, you can get one from a brand other than MAC.

But if you just like having the newest thing from MAC, you'll either have to get creative and look somewhere other than MAC online and MAC stores, or you'll have to wait, or get MAC but not the latest collection.  All About Orange lipsticks are sold out, but you can still get Morange, So Chaud, Vegas Volt, Neon Orange, Lady Danger, and other varied shades of orange and red, orange and pink, etc. Maybelline's Baby Lips balm has Coral Crush, a nice orange.  And if you can wait, MAC will probably restock at least some of the oranges that sold out.

To help you decide on some other possibilities, here are some photos of my orange lipsticks and some swatches of them.  I inserted a few pictures since the shades look a little different under different lighting.
